Welcome to my blog. Here you will find an irregular record of my haphazard progress through an eclectic mix of projects, games and other assorted wargames-related nonsense.

You came here looking for toast and tea? Pop in a couple of slices and put a brew on. This blog is best enjoyed with hot buttered toast and a mug of strong, hot tea*.

Rangers of Shadow Deep

This blog has been in serious danger of becoming moribund. Its not for lack of motivation, rather want of time and opportunity. I find it hard to believe that my hobby activities have been so sparse over the past 3 months.

Thank goodness then for Skype, especially in these days of lock-downs and social distancing. An exchange of emails with my cross-channel gaming buddy Ian has kindled the beginnings of an online Rangers of Shadow Deep campaign.

We've tried playing games via Skype before with mixed results, but Rangers of Shadow Deep seems to work well. It may have something to do with having a relatively low figure count, simple rules and co-operative gameplay with the opposition driven by some uncomplicated AI rules.

It's also very narrative, almost RPG-lite. Definitely my kind of game. After a couple of scenarios I'm already becoming quite attached to my Ranger, Arn Longstrider and his little band of companions, Malia the Arcanist, Bathus the Conjurer and faithful hound Rex.

Arn Longstrider - Ranger of Shadow Deep

Oh, and sorry... no AARs or 'in game' pictures in this post. Skype picture quality is perfectly adequate to tell what's going on during a game, but a bit too grainy to produce decent screenshots for a blog post. You'll just have to use a bit of imagination, or better still get yourself a copy of Rangers of Shadow Deep and start creating your own adventures. I recommend it.

Stay safe.
